‘It is almost inevitable that you want to achieve success in your work and in your life. But why do you want that? Striving for success is hard work. Is succes really worth it? Does succes bring you any good? Do we control our own dreams or are we helpless victims of ‚something in our head?’
THINGS THAT MAY NOT REALLY BE THERE
A short movie made and acted by Frank Blommestijn & Michiel van der Werf. A careful selected sequence of Hollywood scenes forms a new storyline about the pursuit of fame, happiness and recognition. The film consists of 9 scenes including the epilogue and prologue. The dialogues are direct copy’s of the original movie’s. Frank & Michiel meticulously re-enact the scenes by lip-syncing the sounds and mimicking the movements, hairstyles and costumes. Even the lights and the camera angels are the same as in the original movies. Only the background is black in every scene.
As a viewer you get carried away by this new context that Frank & Michiel create. Because of the recognizable theme and the quality of the scene’s, it’s very easy to emphasize with the main characters. Despite, or maybe just because of the humor they use.
